Tonight, we had a patient in the ED who was extremely fussy, and mom was clearly exhausted. Jen really stood out in this moment of bedside care and here's why. Jennifer saw that mom was flustered and took it upon herself with the help of me to ensure mom go a break and to soothe the patient. This patient was 19 months old and clearly showing signs of exhaustion. Jen walked around the ER after placing an IV, soothing him. She went to a room away from Mom and rocked him while listening to lullabies and even sang to him. She demonstrated so many caring and amazing moments as a nurse. She put her own duties aside and sat and rocked and walked and patted and hummed and finally got this sweet boy to sleep. She continued to soothe him and then was able to place him with mom so they both could sleep and reassured mom she was doing a great job.

Watching Jen in this moment made me so proud to be a colleague of hers and to watch her live out the meaning of being a nurse. To selflessly give with no gift in return and to compassionately care for a patient. You were everything and more to this patient and his mother in the moment of pure exhaustion and allowed her to rest. Thank you for going above and beyond and being a stellar nurse and person for this family tonight.
