As a cancer patient at Perelman for almost two years now, I feel I receive superior care from my doctor and the staff I see at Penn on a regular basis. There is one special nurse, however, who seems to go out of her way to be a bright spot in her patients' day. Jennifer Dagger-Eureka is a pleasure every time I see her. She always has a cheerful, positive demeanor, smiles and always refers to patients as "friend" when addressing them. This may seem small but on appointment days when the patients are going from one window to the next again and again, it soothes the soul.
I can think of two recent visits to Penn where Jennifer went out of her way to help me further on days I had chemo treatments. I asked her if she'd seen the local commercials about the recent breakthrough for Penn cancer treatment. She commented that she had and printed out an article that provided further information. I keep that printout, I take it out and read it again and again because it offers hope to me and other patients. Most recently, Jennifer helped me review my pre-meds before chemo treatment. I had a question about one of the medications and she took the time to contact my doctor's office to be sure I had the correct information and my question was fully addressed. I look forward to seeing Jennifer every time I have an appointment. Sometimes she is at the registration/triage desk and sometimes she works in the chemo suites. Wherever she is, she brightens my day and lifts my spirits.

Seven years ago, my best friend had surgery for ovarian cancer and started her chemo regimen with Nurse Dagger. We were both very worried, but Jen was so caring and compassionate; she dispelled a lot of our anxiety. Her great sense of humor took my friend's mind off of the infusions. Even though it is now the third chemo regimen 7 years later, we always ask for Jen and feel so much comfort from her. One big anxiety trigger [for my friend] is the insertion of the chemo line. Jen's technique for needle insertion is almost painless. Thank you, Jen, for taking such good care of my friend.
