Jenn has become a valuable member of the PICU team through her many outstanding qualities. Many situations exist in which Jenn has exemplified herself as demonstrating the qualities of a Daisy nurse.
Jenn's leadership skills are evident in her role as relief charge nurse. On one of her first days off orientation for the RCN role, the PICU was crazy with patients moving in and out and very high acuity. Jenn took this all in stride, remaining calm and sure of herself. The charge nurse/RCN sets the tone for the unit. If Jenn had been not exhibited such calmness in the face of such chaos, the tone of the unit would have been chaotic and unmanageable. As a new RCN, Jenn exhibited a professional and calming presence, which helped the nurses in the unit to remain calm as well.
Jenn is an excellent preceptor for new graduates. She has a knack for explaining concepts that inexperienced nurses can understand. Her nurturing and compassion comes out in this role as she has worked with some of our new grads who were struggling. After working with Jenn, they were able to move past their struggles and become fully functioning members of the PICU team.
Jenn is frequently mentioned during family and staff rounds for her caring, compassion, teamwork, and collaboration. She will never hesitate to assist another nurse, and also seeks out opportunities to help her peers.
Jenn is a positive influence as she is a cheerful and positive person. I do not believe I have ever seen her angry or cross. The families are able to sense her confidence in her knowledge and skills. Jenn is a resource for any nurse in the unit, even those with many more years of experience than she has.
