I had what should have been a simple ureteroscopy and a ureteral stent was placed. I was kept for observation for the procedure, however since the renal calculus was retrieved and laser was not even needed the assumption was that an overnight recovery would be reasonable to expect. Shortly after I was brought to 4 West Jennifer introduced herself as my RN for the evening and settled me in very nicely I could tell she would be a good nurse, however I had no idea how true that would become. During the evening, my condition changed and I began to experience severe pain and bladder spasms. Although feeling miserable and still not clear of the anesthesia I recall thinking how crisp and efficient Jennifer was. Later in my stay I learned that these nurses have 6 patients overnight, so she obviously was busy, but that was never a factor for me. As I look back on the night, she must have spent nearly the entire evening and until nearly 3 AM with me, almost exclusively. Since I am a nurse myself I understand the challenge that I presented for her. She demonstrated problem solving skills, patience, and relentless attention to obtaining relief for me. I am sure she had to call Dr. D three times, but finally Jennifer and he arrived at actions to relieve the pain and make me comfortable enough to begin sleeping. Consequently, I missed any opportunity I had to compliment her on her skilled caring action. It's clear to me that another nurse could have been tired, not as motivated, less aggressive or just not as effective. I am confident that all of Jennifer's patients receive "all" of her attention. It's very important to me that she understand how I appreciated and admired her work. Thank you Jennifer!
