My mother was a patient in the Myelosuppression Unit ICU. Where she received chemotherapy and had to be monitored closely because her white blood cell count was so high and they were afraid complications would arise. We had a nurse, Jennifer Kitkowski, from the first day or so mom was in the hospital. My mother had just been diagnosed with leukemia, and everything happened so fast. Jennifer was so compassionate, knowledgeable, and a FRIEND to us. She explained the chemotherapy and made my mother feel like a queen, even though Mom was afraid and ill. My Mom got a little better and was moved to another floor, but cried when she left Myelo because of the wonderful care she had received.
Mom ended up coming back to the Myelo Unit when things got worse, and ultimately passed away not long after. The Lord was really working, because guess who Mom's nurse was - Jennifer Kitkowski! Jennifer was there with my family and me as my Mom took her last breath in this world.
Jennifer was so kind to each and every member of my family who was there on this difficult day. She treated us all like family, like my Mom was part of her own! We will never, ever forget her. The Lord put Jennifer there, like an angel, to be with us.
