Michelle and Jenny showed us what true nurse leaders do when their nurses are struggling.
It was a very difficult time for all of us with COVID the past few years, but especially our unit was going through a lot of changes and challenges during this time. RNs on the floor were struggling due to staffing shortages, and supply shortages, and it was also hard to see lots of deaths from COVID.
Michelle and Jenny showed us what true nurse leaders do when their nurses are struggling. They were always open with us, listened to our concerns, always tried their best to improve our unit, and give us productive feedback. They made time to round on each of us to listen to us, and they always asked us for feedback for them as well! Also, Michelle and Jenny were actually on the floor to help us when we were very short on staffing. This showed us they are in this together with us, and I think this makes them leaders not just bosses! I know they must’ve been going through lots of challenges on their end, but they kept their positive energy at all times because they didn't want us to feel burdened.
I’m so glad that I met them as my managers, the leaders of all of us! I appreciate their devotion, enthusiasm, passion, patience, and resilience! We should have more leaders like them!!
