Jessica was very professional and compassionate to me in her approach and telling me that she didn't want to miss something by just sending me home.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to share my experience with a special Sanford Nurse, Jessica Bauman, from Sanford Canby Clinic in Canby, MN.
I am a Sanford Nurse and work in Canby also. My experience with Jessica occurred in Aug. after I woke up with a sore throat, trouble swallowing and breathing, pain in my right side of the face, etc.
With the COVID situation, I called the clinic and described my symptoms. I came in for a drive-up COVID test and strep test.
Jessica was the RN who came out to do the testing for me. After doing the 2 swabs, she told me that she just wasn't comfortable sending me home because she was quite concerned about how my throat looked. She wanted to talk to the doctor first before letting me go.
A short time later, I was in the clinic being seen by the practitioner, had a head CT, and was diagnosed with an abscess on my tonsil that was causing such swelling as to impede my airway.
I was started on IV meds right away in Canby and was sent to Sioux Falls for treatment due to the risk of airway issues.
I had a positive outcome and returned home after 3 days.
Jessica could have just done the testing and sent me on my way knowing I was capable of reaching out if I had further problems. Instead, Jessica used her clinical expertise to question what my outcome would be if I maybe didn't have this checked out further. She was very professional and compassionate to me in her approach and telling me that she didn't want to miss something by just sending me home. I don't think I really even knew how ill I was since I couldn't see in my throat due to swelling. When you feel so sick, you just want to get some meds and go home.
Jessica took that extra step to see that I was in a condition that could have ended up with me having a respiratory crisis with a negative outcome if I was alone at home. She gave me assurance that she wanted to be sure I was checked thoroughly. She showed dedication in not leaving anything to chance with me being so sick.
She demonstrated to me all the characteristics of an outstanding nurse who cared about her patient.
