The little things Jessi does without flinching to ensure patients are comfortable and taken care of, not just from a healthcare perspective, are honorable and something I admire most about her.
Jessi has been a traveler with me for some time now. When I had first started recruiting, she worked at St. Joes in Savannah, GA with me. While on assignment, her husband had passed, and it was best she go staff for some time. Fast forward, Jessi is back to working with HCTN. She is a true traveler in every word. She is very flexible in making sure she is helping each facility with whatever their need may be.
Jessica took her first assignment back with HCTN, going to UNC Nash in North Carolina, where staff and travelers would come to her for help on anything and everything. She’s always willing to help her peers to ensure great care to patients. Jessi is on assignment with HCTN at Southside in Virginia. During her first week of starting out the assignment, there were a few misunderstandings with scheduling and timekeeping. Jessi approached this with nothing but understanding, letting me know they had closed two units, and the census was low. In that first week on her unit, management continued to approach Jessi, stating many patients were requesting her as their RN. In some cases, Jessi was maxed out with ratios of 1:5, however, she made sure to stop by the rooms of the patients she couldn’t take on to say hi.
One patient’s wife in particular made sure to write in on a DAISY card to the management team about Jessi. She stated that Jessica Bock went above and beyond to make sure she and her husband were comfortable and not just with “patient care” as most RN’s would explain as “doing their job”. Jessi hustled through the hospital where she had just started because her patient wanted a Pepsi, and what do you know, Jessi came back with a Pepsi for both the patient and his wife. Along with that, Jessi took time to sit in the room with them both, ensuring that they knew how to properly work the phone in their room.
When Jessi told me this story, she seemed to shrug it off, again rotating, “I don’t know what the big deal is. I’m doing my job, and I like to think I’m okay at it.” The little things Jessi does without flinching to ensure patients are comfortable and taken care of, not just from a healthcare perspective, are honorable and something I admire most about her.
