Her actions and communication are prime examples of empathy, and her care and discipline are how you would define hard work.
It would be a disservice not to nominate Jess for the DAISY Award. Although she never provided care for me as a patient, I worked alongside her as a Patient Care Technician and as a student nurse aspiring to be a registered nurse. She taught me more than most on how to care and advocate for patients. When rounding in the morning, patients often asked for her by name to be their nurse for the day, and when she entered rooms, you could feel the relief patients felt knowing they were under her care. She taught me how to interact with families, listen to patients and really hear what they are saying, and become the perfect combination of someone they could trust and relate to but remain professional and confident in care. Her actions and communication are prime examples of empathy, and her care and discipline are how you would define hard work. Even though I was not a patient, I could feel as a coworker how Jess makes people feel seen and how kind she is. I use her as my nursing idol, and when I get my license someday, I hope to resemble her in a lot of ways.
