Jessica calmed me, clearly explained the subsequent diagnosis of Afib, and kept me informed about my mother's status.
I am a person with quadriplegia and was hospitalized in the UNC ICU with pneumonia in January. The entire nursing team was excellent as my treatment progressed but Jessica went above and beyond when/after we had a medical emergency in my room. My mother, who was staying overnight with me, began feeling unwell and ultimately had a heart attack. A medical emergency team was called into the room and my mother was eventually moved to the ER before being put in a room in the cardiac unit. I was very upset, crying, feeling guilty, couldn't sleep, and was in the dark about what was happening with my mother. Jessica calmed me, clearly explained the subsequent diagnosis of Afib, and kept me informed about my mother's status. She even visited my mother once she was relocated from the ER into a room not far from me. I was so very grateful for her attention and understanding. Moreover, this stress could have impacted my recovery had she not been there for me and my family. Jessica works on a 'float' team and I was pleasantly surprised that she was with me for two consecutive nights. She is a wonderful nurse and any patient would be fortunate to have her assigned to their care. In addition to her nursing skills, she is just an overall good person.
