Joan Farley is an extraordinary nurse. Joan was nominated by her peers for her efforts to go above and beyond to show compassion and provide holistic care to a patient undergoing breast cancer surgery at Broward Health Imperial point. As a breast cancer survivor undergoing surgery twice herself, Joan has displayed compassion and empathy for our patients and their families going through this stressful time. On two separate occasions, Joan came from the surgical preadmission area to speak with pre-op breast cancer surgery patients to encourage them, show them, that she was once there and how to keep a positive outlook. Joan knew the feelings they were experiencing and wanted to comfort them and tell them everything would be okay. Joan's sparkling demeanor gave them hope for a bright future and she offered her cell phone number to these patients to call her for any questions or if they just wanted to talk. Joan was also very supportive and encouraging to the families as they are greatly affected by the disease.
