Joe Kasten exemplifies modern nursing at its finest. He exudes self-confidence and does his best to foster the same in those with whom he works. Joe always took his time with me and never made me feel as if I were a bother. He uses evidence-based practice in the way he cares for his patients and does not hesitate in decision-making. He also is not prideful and knows when to request help. Joe always kept my modesty and safety in mind when helping me get into and out of bed. He noticed problems with my chest tubes, was quick to diagnose the problem and fix it, and he passed that knowledge on to the other nurses. I frequently watched him teaching other nurses and HCA's various techniques that he had learned while working in the ICU.
