My husband came to the ICU after surgery on his back. John came in to give a hand to slide my husband up in bed; he's 6'2". After my husband went to the floor, his blood sugar sent him back to the ICU. John came on the 2nd and 3rd night. He was compassionate and tender to my husband's needs. Even when he was heavily sedated on a vent, John thoughtfully, tentatively, and compassionately told my husband everything he was doing.
This showed such deep respect for a patient who appeared to not know anything going on, but who really knows what my husband could hear. I was so deeply touched by John's thoughtful and respectful care that I remained more aware of my husband's presence. I really needed this as he passed away after a while of getting off the vent. I noticed that John's voice was like a silky blanket comforting my husband. This is a nurse that truly leaves his personal baggage at the door when he comes in on his shift. He is all in on his shift giving to his patients.
