On Friday, the 10th floor was very short staffed with only 4 nurses on the night shift, we needed 10, and 5 nurses for the following day shift. John was working in PAWS that Friday day, and offered to come back and be in charge that night to lighten the load for the rest of the nurses who would be working, all of whom were newer and had never been in charge before. John is full-time in the PAWS unit, so it was really spectacular that he helped us out!
Even after John worked Friday day in PAWS and was in charge with patients all night on the floor, he stayed late the next morning until after 9:00 AM to help the day shift get through the busy 8:00 hour. Several nurses were starting with 5 patients, and our charge nurse had 4 herself. He answered call lights and phones, gave patients pain medication, and even held my fussy baby while I saw my other patients. Thank you so much, John!
