John was respectful and approached my teenage daughter with the same kind of compassion that he would have treated his own daughter.
John has been the most amazing nurse I have ever encountered. My daughter was transferred from a different hospital to this one to be under the care of a specific doctor. We had done extensive research to find the best doctor for our daughter but what we didn't expect is the level of care that John provided. From the moment this scared mom and my daughter entered Baylor Surgical Hospital, John embraced her care. He was not only attentive and efficient, but he went out of this way to ensure she was comfortable. John was respectful and approached my teenage daughter with the same kind of compassion that he would have treated his own daughter. He took the time to talk to her explain what was happening and made her feel comfortable asking questions that she had. In fact, he encouraged and welcomed her questions. John quickly realized that she was a very smart girl who understands mature explanations. When he stepped out, she said "he didn't treat me like a baby." The doctor had ordered an MRI stat, but John advocated for her to have pain medicine before the imaging so that she was conformable. He also made sure she had a dinner plate (even though she had no appetite). When she went down for the MRI, John put her ice cream in the freezer for her. It may seem like a small thing, but his attention to ALL the details - even the smallest - were seen as acts of kindness. We are incredibly, humbly, and overwhelmingly thankful for John and his care for our daughter.
