His prompt recognition of a deteriorating condition, the life-saving intervention and assistance provided to his colleagues beyond his working hours, as well as his continuous support for ensuring prompt treatment and admission processes, are testaments to Jonan's exceptional nursing skills and selflessness.
In the world of healthcare, the tireless efforts and dedication shown by nurses often go unnoticed. However, it is crucial to acknowledge those exceptional individuals whose commitment to their patients truly stands out. Hence, I would like to nominate Jonan Fernandez for the DAISY Award, bringing attention to his remarkable journey as a nurse, his promotion to Assistant Head Nurse, and his unwavering commitment to saving lives through prompt recognition of deteriorating conditions.
Jonan Fernandez’s passion and dedication to all of the patients that come through our unit is unmatched, and even as Specialized Unit as Hemodialysis AHN he never fully stops out of his nursing role. I often wonder how someone can juggle so much and still keep such a wonderful balance of professionalism and light heartedness. We are so lucky to have him as a part of our unit. I can’t imagine someone more deserving of this award than he is. He is always on the floor doing patient care and supporting his staff. You would not know he has such an administrative burden as AHN. I have yet to see a nurse leader support his department in such dovetail and happily. In this, he is more of a ‘Patient first” than I have seen a nurse in a long time, and he offloads the burden of his staff by being forever present in the unit even after office hours. He is always pleasant, supportive, positive, and ready to help. He is a definition of doing the right every time. I believe he is one of those rare people who is the best self when no one is looking. I never have heard him complain, grumble, or even hint at daily frustrations he must meet. King Faisal Hemodialysis Unit would be hard-pressed to find a nurses so true to being patient-centric and hospital-first in the same breath.
I was reminded of a recent patient story who had coded in Pediatric Dialysis. It was already 5pm, but he came and helped us revive the patient. The patient had coded, and Jonan did the CPR and delegated the responsibilities to nurses on the floor during that situation. The patient recovered and we sent him to PICU and Jonan, being that AHN, we know he didn’t leave the unit until everything was settled. Now, the patient is being kidney transplanted, and he always visits the unit and looks for our AHN Jonan to thank him. The patient vividly remembers what had happened to him that day until now.
Therefore, It is with great pride and honour that we nominate Jonan Fernandez for the DAISY Award, recognizing his extraordinary contribution to the nursing profession and his unwavering commitment to patient care, recognizing his dedication, leadership, and his life-saving intervention that exemplifies the very essence of nursing: making a positive impact on the lives of others, unparalleled dedication, and his willingness to go above and beyond the call of duty. His prompt recognition of a deteriorating condition, the life-saving intervention and assistance provided to his colleagues beyond his working hours, as well as his continuous support for ensuring prompt treatment and admission processes, are testaments to Jonan's exceptional nursing skills and selflessness. Jonan has the can-do mentality that you cannot teach. You don’t have to ask her or explain “being patient centered”, he is a natural servant to others, and he is hospital centered always. No one in my experience is a better example of what a nurse should look like, and I think you would be hard-pressed to find anyone who did not agree.
