Joy was the most incredible nurse for my husband during his stay at Augusta University on the oncology floor. She tirelessly always greeted us with a smile when she came in in the morning and continued to check on our every need during the day. No request was too great for her, and she continued to ask if she could help us in any other way. My husband was only in the hospital for six days, but as anyone who’s been in a hospital knows, each minute of each hour is grueling, and it helps so much to have someone like Joy there to answer every question. Her pleasant smile was absolutely amazing and uplifting to all of us as we went through many discouraging moments, and she continued to explain as best she could why procedures were being performed and even how my husband might feel after the procedure. Every question we had, which had not been answered by the doctors she attempted to either answer or get an answer from a superior. It also occurred to me that Joy was treating all of her other many patients with exactly the same concern and dedicated treatment. As the time drew near for our last procedure, Joy could tell that we were so anxious to get through all the paperwork and bring my husband home. She immediately started the paperwork and tirelessly continued to finish it so that we could leave at a reasonable time. Anyone who has ever been a patient in a hospital understands the importance of having a nurse like Joy. We only hope that if we have future trips to the hospital we will be lucky enough to have a nurse as competent and helpful as Joy as our nurse. Interesting that Joy fits her name.
