She makes everyone feel seen and heard and demonstrates compassion and caring through her actions, body language, and words. This ability and skill to make everyone feel seen and heard also provide comfort and security to patients and families.
Joy was my preceptor for my summer nurse internship in the Emergency Department and exceeded the criteria needed for the DAISY Award. From my first shift as an intern, Joy made me feel so welcomed and respected, so I was not surprised when she did the same for each and every patient and family member she came across. Joy consistently went above and beyond for patients, family members, coworkers, and other staff (even for people commonly labeled as "difficult").

She makes everyone feel seen and heard and demonstrates compassion and caring through her actions, body language, and words. This ability and skill to make everyone feel seen and heard also provide comfort and security to patients and families. Joy was commended for her natural ability to provide excellent care to patients and family members by the patients and family members themselves, along with coworkers and other staff members, multiple times throughout my internship experience. Joy inspired me each and every shift to be a better intern and human being.

Anyone who knows Joy would say she has a heart for caring for people and has the gift of being a team player. Joy is always asking her coworkers if they need help with anything and is the first to jump up when someone asks for assistance. She is a natural-born leader and beyond deserving of this award. Joy makes the Emergency Department a better place and inspires each and every person to be the best they can be.

I feel so blessed to have had Joy as my preceptor. She poured into me each and every shift and played such a big role in who I will be as a nurse. There are very few people like Joy in this world. She cares for others so well and never asks for anything in return. She is more than deserving of this award, and nominating her for this award is the least I can do. Saying 'thank you' just isn't enough.
