Joyce joined 9 Smythe in September of 2018 and obtained her BSN in 2021. Joyce has received multiple nominations for the DAISY Award since the start of the award at UH EMC and takes pride in the care she delivers to her patients. Joyce enjoys precepting nursing students and continues to have a relationship with most of them after their time together. She will take on charge nurse duties to ensure the floor runs smoothly and is a mentor to our new hires.

Nomination:

My 86-year-old mom had been in the hospital a week. She took a hard fall with a head injury and developed a UTI. Joyce has been so compassionate with her. When we told her she had dementia, Joyce took her under her wing. She made my mom feel wonderful. Even though she only had my mom for 2 days, she always asked about her or stepped in to check on her and just say, "Hi." My mom smiles very big when she recognizes somebody who has been kind to her. She has dementia, but she knows Joyce was compassionate with not only her but our family. Even as a visitor she would ask if we needed anything and that meant a lot to us. With us not getting any sleep and sometimes not eating, she was always there for us. Joyce is really passionate about her patients and her job. She goes above and beyond and is a great asset to your hospital.
