Not only did Juan exemplify every possible definition of what a nurse should be, but he excelled and multiplied it infinitely times.
I was new to the Orlando area. I have not yet been to a doctor, much less a hospital. Keeled over in pain, I still took the time to look up hospitals in the area and check the reviews. I did not want to wind up in a hospital where no one cared and I was nothing but part of someone’s paycheck. I read great reviews of Celebration Advent Health, and I got in my car and drove myself to the Emergency Room despite the excruciating pain that I was in.

Every turn, every speed bump, and every stop at a red light brought tears to my eyes because I did not know what was happening to me, and I was scared. From my first interaction with the staff at the Emergency room and how fast I was processed, it was clear to me that I had made the right choice. Although everyone who surrounded me played an important role during the next 6 days of this scary situation deserves to be recognized as well for their exceptional service, one nurse, in particular, stood out.

Not only did Juan exemplify every possible definition of what a nurse should be, but he excelled and multiplied it infinitely times. He was sweet, patient, soothing, knowledgeable, cheerful, sympathetic, and kind. All of this should have been enough, but it wasn’t. He was also empathetic and funny; he listened to my needs, made sure I was comfortable and would take one last peek into my room to make sure that I was ok and didn’t need anything before his shift ended, and this is why he stood out to me. He would go above and beyond his call of duty to make sure that I was ok and didn’t need anything. He explained things in detail since I wasn’t understanding how I came to have this or how to deal with it.

In a world full of division, uncertainty, and hate—a world full of people who no longer care about each other. They don’t have any compassion or empathy for one another, much less sympathy, and an extreme lack of family values. Here stands a young man who, although his generation worries me to my core, gave me back some faith that this world is not doomed yet and that humanity still has a chance to prevail.
