In a period of doom and gloom, he was consistently upbeat and positive and eased the tension with his sense of humor.
My husband was transferred to the CCU from another local hospital because his blood pressure was low and they couldn’t stabilize it. When he arrived, the staff at MCH determined he was septic from an infection in a diabetic ulcer on his foot. The possibility of amputation became real and hit us like a ton of bricks. Miguel was extremely patient and understanding while we worked through this news, taking time to explain every medicine he was putting through the IV, finding answers to questions we had, and listening to all of our concerns. In a period of doom and gloom, he was consistently upbeat and positive and eased the tension with his sense of humor. Luckily, the worst-case scenario didn’t happen and a different route was able to be taken by the surgical staff to preserve the foot and remove only the damaged tissue. With each change to the care provided, Miguel explained the doctor’s orders and the reasoning and benefits of these orders. He answered the same questions numerous times without any sign of annoyance or impatience, we could tell he truly cares for his patients and their families. The level of care by all of the staff at MCH has been phenomenal and we are truly grateful. But your nurse is your most frequent contact, and Miguel eased the anxiety. Not understanding is a huge cause of that anxiety, what’s happening, what’s going to happen, why are we using this medicine or stopping this medicine, it’s all overwhelming sometimes. But Miguel took the time to explain it all in ways we could easily understand. As my husband was transferred out of CCU, Miguel offered encouragement, well-wishes and blessings on our journey to the new floor. He was all we could have ever hoped for in a nurse and so much more.
