My brother was hospitalized at BDMC and it was very traumatic for him. He is 58 years old and suffers from MS. He had never been hospitalized before and was experiencing an intense situation. He had amazing help, but one particular nurse stands out, Juanita Coriano.
The skilled care he received was commendable because the nurses were all knowledgeable, but, Juanita went out of her way to make him feel like a person and not just another sick person occupying a bed who would soon leave and never be seen again. She joked with him, laughed with him, and went along with his sense of humor. She never acted like she was in a hurry, although he wasn't her only patient. She was truly caring and compassionate.
I was there every day with my brother and the room would light up every time Juanita walked in, not because she was a bearer of good news but because she projected a sense of caring, of genuine concern and professionalism. Her attitude was uplifting. She even made me feel welcomed and did not make me feel like I was in the way. She took the time to help us understand all the medical jargon that was so foreign to us and especially to my brother. Juanita is one amazing lady who we won't forget.
