Juli is an incredible advocate for her patients and families. A recent example of this was with a severely head-injured, pediatric patient. This patient needed further care in a rehab facility to gain as much function back as possible. The family was non-English speaking, and even with an interpreter, continued to refuse to allow their child to go to rehab. They just wanted to go home. We were told that there were no cultural mediators for this family.
Juli went out of her way to reach out to the manager of the cultural mediator program directly and found out that in fact there was a cultural mediator available. Juli coordinated with all of the medical teams to schedule this mediator to come have a family meeting. The outcome of this extra effort was that the family agreed to rehab. This pediatric patient has the best shot of recovery thanks to the extra efforts made by Juli. She should be recognized for this amazing nursing care and advocacy. She exemplifies what it means to be a Harborview Nurse!
