I've been a cancer patient in contact with Julie many times. She has the ability to be very professional but very personal at the same time. She makes her patients relaxed but confident in her abilities. I always feel she is very concerned about my situation and anxious to help. Julie always has a smile on her face and is pleasant. She makes a patient at ease. She is an example for other employees. I'm sure the doctors appreciate her work and the way she conducts herself.
***
Julie Barkema is an outstanding co-worker and charge nurse who makes the cancer/infusion center run smoothly. She is one of the most compassionate people we know which is shown to every patient every day. She is a great mentor and preceptor for new staff and students. We want Julie to know how much we appreciate her leadership and compassion.
Julie always goes the extra mile for her patients. An example of this is a patient that had a broken zipper. Julie brought the things from home and fixed the zipper. It meant the world to this patient and he says every time he zips up his jacket, he smiles and thinks of her. She is always doing this kind of thing for her patients and co-workers. She is one of the most thoughtful people we know and never expects to be recognized, but we think it is time she is.
