Julie has always been a positive light for me to look to.
There is not a specific experience that I would like to highlight because Julie's actions as an extraordinary nurse cannot be summed up into a single event, as she embodies the characteristics of a DAISY Nurse every day. Working as a nurse in labor and delivery can be stressful and overwhelming, but Julie has always been a positive light for me to look to. She is genuinely passionate about her role as a labor and delivery nurse. Julie is always a source of encouragement for her coworkers and never misses an opportunity to help others.
At shift change, I always feel at peace when I hand off patients to Julie because I know they will be well taken care of in her hands. I have been a witness to Julie's dedication to her patients and coworkers numerous times, as she has stayed at the end of her shifts to support her patients during deliveries and stressful events and to make sure the incoming nurse is set up well for the shift ahead. With our patient population, we are often faced with challenging language barriers. Still, Julie's kindness and love for her patients of all backgrounds do not need translation because they are evident in her actions.
In most cases, labor and delivery nurses are always remembered by their patients because they support them during one of the most vulnerable and significant events of their lives; Julie's remarkable care is a testament to that. Julie is truly an extraordinary nurse and person in every way, and she should be celebrated for the positive impact she has had on the lives of her patients and coworkers.
