Julie is a special nurse who typically goes above and beyond for her patients; however, this most recent situation sets her apart. As our clinic is a multidisciplinary clinic with numerous amount of specialty clinics, Julie has her hand in everything, including infusions. She has been administering infusions for dermatology patients on and off for about a year. One patient in particular needed a new medication via the PICC line. Dermatology (who is not housed in our clinic) ordered the PICC to be placed, and home health will complete the medication administration. Somewhere along the line, this did not happen, and the mom who knows and trusts Julie contacted her with concerns. Her daughter had a PICC placed, but nothing else coordinated. Julie contacted the dermatology department to coordinate home health to deliver medication to their house. She brought the patient in for multiple PICC line flushes and dressing changes. She even researched the medication and administration to teach mom how the medication should be prepared and administered. Mom was so thankful that she shed tears of joy once all teaching was complete. Julie truly went the extra mile to accommodate this patient and her needs.
