In the summer of 2023, the Dialysis Unit began accepting applications for a new director. Kaci Caradine went through the interview process and was hired to be the new Director of Nursing for Dialysis. Our team was hesitant to hear that someone from outside of the dialysis world was coming in to be our new director. Oh, how wrong we were. Our unit has a different feel entirely. I once again enjoy coming to work. Kaci’s bright spirit and even-tempered way of leading have made more of a difference than I can put into words. She can be stern when needed, a consoling confidant, and always has her team’s back. When you go to her with concerns or questions, you never feel like she does not have time for you or that she thinks what you are saying is unimportant. I am a new leader myself, and I cannot tell you what a confidence booster it is to be so strongly supported. The little touches she adds to everyday life, like handwritten notes for a birthday or nurse’s week, are very special. She put a lot of effort into making sure we felt celebrated every single day of nurse’s week. Each day, she had a “goody” and a sweet sign about what great nurses we are. Everyone likes to hear they are doing a good job, and she makes sure you always hear it. Kaci has made a huge impact in the dialysis unit. We are so thankful to have her!
