I was working late one evening when the unit was incredibly busy! I was amazed to see how well the entire NICU team worked together (nurses, physicians, radiology, & respiratory therapy). We had two babies who were dying at the same time. I was helping to take care of one of the babies, and witnessed the most precious act of compassion and kindness. The parents were so overwhelmed by emotion that they were unable to stay at the bedside while their baby died. So, Kaitlin gently wrapped up the baby and held him as he passed away. When Kaitlin was working with the family through this process, that was the one thing that the mom was so thankful for. She told Kaitlin over and over, "Thank you so much for holding him!" Kaitlin had already had a long and stressful day, but she took that moment to slow down and do the right thing for this family.
