We had been at MEE for 3 weeks following a trach placement for my baby boy. Although we had many fabulous nurses, one stood out from the rest. Kaitlyn Bryan helped us through every step of his admission. Her wealth of knowledge on pediatric trachs, patience when teaching, kindness to my baby, and transparency are the reasons we felt so comfortable going home. When there was difficult information to be heard, which happened many times over that roller coaster of a month, she held our hands and made sure we understood everything in order to take care of our son. One instance of her honesty occurred the morning after a code blue on our son, when we needed support and reassurance most, she was there to give it without hesitation. She advocated for him as fiercely as we did, often saying, "If it were my baby, I would want and expect the same". I could see how much she cared about him each time she was at his bedside. I had tears in my eyes when she said goodbye to him during her last shift with us. She is truly a shining star for all these trach kids and parents who walk through the doors. My son is the happiest baby, and he smiles at many people, but how he interacted with Katy was different and incredible to see. I know he trusted her as much as we did.
