Karen is an amazing role model for all of nursing, both here at Covenant and in the community.
She is an amazing leader who is fair and equitable to all employees. Her passion for nursing and her strong commitment to "doing the right thing" for all people goes above and beyond.
She instills compassion, mutual respect and encourages the professional development of her leaders and their staff. She provides and encourages opportunities to leaders and staff nurses for their professional growth. Karen sets the bar high for professional development for herself and the staff.
Motivates staff with a shared vision and enthusiasm to achieve better outcomes for themselves and their patients:
Patient safety, patient outcomes, and the patient's overall experience are high priorities. She is always wanting to continually improve in all aspects of patient care and outcomes. She shares these high expectations with her leaders and builds process change to achieve outcomes. Her leaders hold amazing respect and admiration for her and they strive to help her reach her goals.
Promotes and enhances the image of nursing within the organization, the community, and the profession.
Karen is so respected not just within the hospital, but throughout the community. She, I believe, is a role model for any nurse or student nurse who has ever met her.
She is active in her professional nursing organizations, most recently serving as President of TONE, Texas Organization of Nursing Executives. She has encouraged our directors and nurse managers to become involved in TONE as well, and they are.
Karen supports so many individual organizations throughout our community, she supports the needy and helps many families at Christmas time (sometimes up to 8 families), not just through Unwrap the Magic, but outside our Covenant family as well. All of these are done silently and from her heart, not for recognition. She has a giving heart of gold.
Karen is an encourager, a promoter of "it's the right thing to do."
She is professional, respected not only by nurses but our medical staff as well.
She lives by honor and leads with honor.
She is the epitome of what a nursing leader should be, she is amazing.
Karen is a model caregiver that all of our leaders aspire to emulate.
