Recently, I was suddenly stricken with a blood infection and taken to UPMC Mercy. I had no idea that the infection was transmitted from falling into the Allegheny River. The infection has caused immense pain and some paralysis. This has been very rough for me; however, Karen's continuous understanding and compassion have given me hope where there was none! Karen's devotion to her duties has come at times when I needed it the most, giving me the inspiration to fight through my pain, and see a brighter future even if some life changes are necessary. During leadership rounding, Karen is a person who is consistently recognized for her kindness, drive, and ability to personally connect with patients and their loved ones. Her genuine love of helping others is evident in each and every interaction not only with her patients but also with her coworkers on the unit and throughout the hospital.
