When unexpected tragedy hits a family unit, one can only hope to have a nurse like Karen by their side. North Florida Regional Medical Center is blessed to have a caring, compassionate, competent and exceptional nurse like Karen in our ICU. For one family losing a wife and mother, Karen was that nurse - who spoke gently to our patient, consoled a grieving husband and went above and beyond to consider the feelings of her patient's children. With death eminent for her patient, Karen employed a holistic approach to nursing practice, ensuring that her patient was comfortable, the family felt supported, and her patient's wishes were honored. As a result of Karen's dedication to patient-centered care, six additional patients received organ donations in the wake of this one family's tragedy. While Karen delivers this same excellent care to her patients every day, this is one story that truly captured our hearts. For her exceptional nursing care, Karen has been awarded the North Flordia Regional Medical Center DAISY Award. Congratulations Karen and thank you for everything that you do.
