I received a call at 11:45 p.m. that my grandma was in the ER and that nothing could be done. We were able to sit with her for several hours, which was a huge blessing. During this time she tested positive for COVID. She needed to be moved. We were concerned she would have to go be by herself. Karin came in and explained the risks to us and arranged for my dad to go with her. She was wonderful. She had the perfect mix of knowledge and compassion.
I watched her assess my grandma and her touch was so gentle. Even though my grandma was unconscious she spoke to her and commented on different little things. It was clear that she was just as concerned about the spiritual and emotional well-being as she was about the physical. Karin explained what to expect over the next several hours. She made sure my dad had the proper PPE and provided thoughtful ideas on how to connect with her in those precious final hours. Even though I had to leave, I was so grateful to know she had a provider committed to providing complete holistic care. I knew she was exactly where she needed to be in her final moments.
