She consistently came to check-in with us and offered different options of beverages for him. She even comforted my husband and myself.
Kasheena Coulter was the perfect person for my son to wake up to. She didn’t pressure him to drink something right away. Which is perfect because he’s usually very sensitive and agitated after waking up from anesthesia. She was patient with him and had a very soothing voice and energy. She consistently came to check-in with us and offered different options of beverages for him. She even comforted my husband and myself.
Sheena did not rush us through the process, which I think got us out quicker honestly. I feel like that happened when our daughter was in recovery a few years ago after she had surgery and it set a bad tone for my daughter's discharge. We were nervous about that happening again, but Sheena was so patient and kind and a great observer. She took the time to read between the lines of what my son needed to have a calm, smooth discharge. She put him first instead of the amount of time we were in recovery, and we still only spent about 45 mins there. I’m convinced it was her patience that did that.
My husband and I were trying to figure out how our insurance would cover my son's discharge prescriptions because we were unaware that they were from a compound pharmacy. We were rushing to figure it out and we were 45 mins from our home, so we didn’t want to leave the area without picking up his necessary prescriptions first. Sheena offered help. She offered insight and ideas for what we could do, and she honestly saved us a lot of time and energy. This enabled us to focus on our son.
My son has had a lot of health issues since birth. He’s had years of different testing and uncomfortable doctors and hospital visits. Unfortunately, he really dislikes any medical treatment.
My husband and I were so nervous that he would panic when coming out of anesthesia, but Sheena let him sleep until waking up on his own which I’ve never experienced. I could tell my son really loved her soothing voice and her not being pushy. He even allowed her to feed him some slushy which was amazing.
He usually doesn’t trust medical staff, yet he couldn’t keep his eyes off her. I feel like her explaining what she was doing helped him a lot. She wasn’t too animated or loud, but she was warm and thorough. She truly set the tone for my son and us leaving the hospital in good spirits. My husband was blown away by her as well. My son didn’t shed a tear nor was he nervous after waking up which was a miracle. She was an answer to our prayers for this surgery. My husband and I both got emotional about it in the car.
Thank you, Sheena, we will never forget you. If there was ever anyone made for this job, it’s you. TSSH is lucky to have you.
