Kate was incredible. She provided expert, compassionate care for our entire family at the two most critical times of our stay. She greeted us in Labor and Delivery Triage and made sure to ask us what we wanted and to help us advocate for ourselves, even as not everyone else was so mindful of our preferences early on. She was also there for us the next day when our little one struggled to enter the world. She seemed to be everywhere at once: explaining to parents what was happening, monitoring baby, conveying information between parents on opposite sides of the room. And when he finally stabilized and was able to go to Mom, Dad lost it. He was doubled over sobbing in the middle of the room, and Kate noticed. She provided words of reassurance, an incredibly timely hug, and a shoulder to sob on as the emotions flowed forth. It will be something that we never forget, and for which we will always be grateful. But Kate still wasn't done. After that, she brought in a nurse-trainee (with whom she seemed to have great rapport and to whom she seemed to be giving great instruction, working with her and the parents at the same time), managed the checkup of our new and now much more stable little one, and then helped at length with nursing. We've been amazingly impressed with all the nurses we've interacted with, but Kate went above and beyond for our entire family.
