Katie was not my nurse for each treatment day, but she made a special point of visiting us each time- never in a hurry and always offering encouragement and support to help us through.
My husband and I met Katelyn Brunz on the first day of my chemo treatments. She was my nurse that day, giving us a tour and letting us pick a treatment chair close to her workstation. We were both very nervous, which she picked up right away. Her first action was to get an in-depth history from me. Katie explained each medication, the procedure, and how long it would take to infuse. Before proceeding and noticing my apprehension, she asked if we would like to take a moment. She left, we prayed, and then it all began. The treatment went well until the Benadryl injection began. It caused me to feel confused, which Katie had mentioned as a potential side effect. Accordingly, it was a good laugh for her and my husband. This broke the ice, and we could relax and easily understand what was in store for the next four months. Katie was not my nurse for each treatment day, but she made a special point of visiting us each time- never in a hurry and always offering encouragement and support to help us through. Midway through my sessions, it was determined to change my medication due to the development of extreme neuropathy in my hands and feet. As this was being determined with my doctor, the pharmacy, and the nurses, a new chemo cocktail was to be used. Having known my history Katie knew that a filter would be necessary, however she realized that the new drug would have to be much thicker consistency and perhaps would not have been an option for me. Because of Katie's personal interest in my special needs, the plan was changed. The original medication was continued with a lesser adjusted dose. I have completed my chemo treatment, and although my neuropathy is quite persistent, I cannot express enough gratitude to everyone in the Cancer Center. Everyone was so professional and kind. God bless all of them, and I thank God especially for bringing Katie to my side for care.
