Katherine then remained in the room and held the patient's hand as she passed away peacefully.
Katherine had a lady who had suffered from COVID during the thick of the pandemic and we had exhausted all efforts to save her life. As it soon became apparent that this patient was going to die, she updated the family and allowed the daughter to come to the hospital and be present outside the room. She placed a Vocera (communication device) with the daughter (outside the room) and wore her Vocera inside the room so that the daughter could talk to her mother while she passed. In time, Katherine then remained in the room and held the patient's hand as she passed away peacefully. She made sure the patient received the respect and care she deserved, while also providing comfort to the daughter. This is not the first time Katherine would not allow a patient to die alone. This provided comfort to both the patient as well as the family since they couldn't be with each other. Her efforts do not go unnoticed or unappreciated! THANK YOU, KATHERINE, for being such an amazing nurse!
