Time and time again, I have noticed a consistent patient-centered focus for those in care of Katie Coleman. From my perspective, not only does she consistently provide excellent clinical care, but she goes beyond and focuses on the patient's overall well-being. As a specific example, this last week Katie had a patient in her care that was in traction and could not get out of bed. Through discussion, he admitted to her that he was quite bored and restless. Despite an already daunting nursing load, Katie took to construct the patient a make-shift basketball ball and hoop to help him pass the time. In addition to this creativity, she asked medical staff to sign the "back-bored" with well-wishes and encouragement for the patient. From the perspective of spiritual care, Katie provides consistent and meaningful interventions for the overall encouragement and well-being of her patients and their families.
