It truly felt like I was meeting someone I was already friends with for the first time, just because we had such a pleasant conversation a few days before. Kate was very attentive, showed that she cared for my son, and answered all my questions.
My first interaction with Kate was on a Friday afternoon, right before 5pm. I had called to schedule an appointment for my 4 month old, and was obviously anxious since he had a lump on his neck and the ultrasound we had done earlier in the day was non-conclusive. I was already frustrated about having to see yet another specialist. I thought to myself "it's Friday at 4:40pm, there's no way I will hear back from a Nurse before the weekend." And then Kate called me. She walked me through everything and calmed my nerves. She asked so many purposeful questions about my son's medical history, how and when we found the lump, etc. She was able to schedule me for that Monday and I clearly remember her saying "So I don't want you to panic, but we do have availability this Monday." She even acknowledged the fact that the appointment would be 40 minutes away (meaning she took the time to map it out) but also offered us the following week if we wanted an appointment that was a little bit closer to home. Talk about going above and beyond and recognizing that 40 minutes one-way with a 4 month old is a lot! After scheduling for that Monday, she assured me that we were going to be seeing an incredible doctor and that he is fantastic when it comes to bumps, lumps, and cysts. She wanted to make sure I would be able to find the office and even asked me what app I use for directions. She went as far as explaining that she uses Waze and it always gets her right to the office. On Monday when we arrived at the appointment, we had the pleasure of meeting Kate in person. It truly felt like I was meeting someone I was already friends with for the first time, just because we had such a pleasant conversation a few days before. She was very attentive, showed that she cared for my son, and answered all my questions. She let us know there was one patient ahead of us and the doctor would be in shortly. But my interactions with Kate didn't end there! A few days later, I was looking in the CHOP app and couldn't see any after-visit notes or any summary. I messaged Kate in the portal and she got back to me promptly and didn't make me feel like I was bothering her. She provided the notes so I could send them to our Pediatrician. If all nurses could be like Kate, wow, we would live in such an incredibly supportive, and caring world. Shout out to you, Kate. You went above and beyond, and not just once. Thank you for everything.
