Kathy was assigned to our 6-year-old granddaughter, L, on Monday March 28th, after she was admitted with sepsis to her blood. Our granddaughter was very sick and we were all very nervous and anxious about her care and diagnosis. Kathy promoted a calming effect not only to L, but to her parents and grandparents. I, as a nurse, knew immediately that L was being taken care of well. I have known Kathy from church and she brought such a peace and comfort with how she talked to L. As a Parish Nurse, to me this was a "God thing" that Kathy was L's nurse. She showed her how to make a slushy so that L would drink it to get fluids. She took L personally to the IV room, explaining and telling her everything that would be happening. Being 6, L does not like needle sticks, but Kathy was so patient explaining it all to L, and I could see L calming down, interested in what Kathy would say next. She talked to L with respect, calmness, and listened to L as she asked questions. Kathy acted as if she and L were the best of friends and that Kathy had all the time in the world to be with her. We are all in excellent hands! Thank you Kathy for being a great nurse!
