Kathy devoted her full attention to making sure my daughter continued to be positive and focused on making progress, however slow, yet steady, toward delivery.
Obstetrics Nurse Ms. Kathy Barnes patiently and expertly assisted my daughter with calming support and thoughtful attention and guidance through a long, drawn-out labor that lasted about 50 hours! My daughter is a rural family physician who treats patients and delivers babies at this medical center and has had the pleasure of working with Kathy to deliver babies, so my daughter was well aware that she and her baby were in good hands to have a trusted, physician coworker in attendance, as well as Obstetrics Nurse, Kathy Barnes, whose expertise and dedication were so reassuring.
This was my daughter's first child, and the baby was head down, but with a hand positioned at her face and neck area such that it was very difficult for the baby to pass through the birth canal. Trying to reposition the baby was difficult and was not successful. Kathy was extremely patient, calming, and comforting, and even though my daughter has experience with complicated deliveries and knows what to consider and advise and do, it was a relief to just personally focus with Kathy's support. Kathy helped reinforce being patient, coached about pushing, and helped manage labor pain with positioning, etc.
Kathy devoted her full attention to making sure my daughter continued to be positive and focused on making progress, however slow, yet steady, toward delivery. During the first 24 hours of labor, Kathy stayed in attendance for two straight, twelve hour shifts, plus 1.5-2 hours beyond that to assist my daughter. That is DEDICATION! Then, I think after a brief rest, Kathy did the SAME during the next 24 hours, until the baby was born! Kathy then took care of the baby and monitored the baby overnight. Later, as a thorough and dedicated health provider, Kathy even went with the parents out to the parking lot to make sure that the infant car seat for the newborn baby was properly secured to the car's seat and safely installed for an infant, before the parents drove home!
Kathy's positive, attentive and thoughtful assistance demonstrates the utmost caring and genuine interest in providing excellent care of patients! Thank you, O.B. Nurse, Kathy Barnes!
