Upon discharge my father-in-law was given some medication to go home with to tide him over until he could get a prescription filled. A few days later I went to pick up the medication. Once I delivered it we realized it was the wrong dosage. I called the pharmacy who said they filled it how it was phoned in and would try to get in touch with the hospitalist. This proved unsuccessful. It was around the holiday and no one I contacted seemed to know what to do.
Finally, after several days of long holds and frustrating communications trying to figure out what we should do before the medicine ran out, I reached Kathy. She was patient and took a great deal of time to understand the situation. She looked up the discharge instructions and confirmed the correct dosage. She made several calls to the OSF Pharmacy and then to me to relay accurate information and make sure the medicine we had received wasn't compounded with a higher potency form. Once she was confident all of the information was correct, she helped us secure the right dosage through the Medi-Park Pharmacy. I greatly appreciate her help as I am the medical advocate for my father-in-law and I am leaving the country. Now I can leave with confidence that he is on the correct dose and has enough medicine until he has his follow-up appointment. I cannot convey enough how professional and reassuring Kathy was when others seemed to just pass me on. She stuck with it and brought about a resolution! So thankful for her dedication and help.
