Kathy went above and beyond
Elderly African Americans have been disproportionately affected by the Coronavirus. In addition, this community is challenged with access to care and has a mistrust of the healthcare system.
Kathy Fisher reached out to members in her church and encouraged the members to receive the Covid-19 vaccine. She gave out information and answered questions for several Sundays regarding how Covid-19 is affecting the African American community and the science supporting the vaccine.
Several members were convinced by her encouragement and decided to receive the vaccine. Because several of the members did not have access to computers, she registered each one using her Readyset access. In addition to registering the members, Kathy picked up the individuals and transported them round trip to receive the vaccine.
One of the couples was in their 80's with an unsteady gait and mobility concerns. Kathy went above and beyond. She transported them to the clinic site and then retrieved a wheelchair to assist them to the clinic. On the way home, she picked up food for them.
To date, Kathy has been able to get several members of her church vaccinated. She continues to offer information on a regular basis and answer questions related to the Covid-19 vaccine. She is currently coordinating plans to get many more vaccinated in the very near future.
