Kathy Gilbert has taken care of Ms. A now for quite a while. She came into our ED and was in the SICU until she transferred to our unit a couple of weeks later. She sustained quite a hospital stay and overcame many medical complications. She required a sitter to ensure she remained safe during much of her time here and to prevent her from falling. All of our staff have come to love her and think of her as family. Our case manager worked extremely hard to get Ms. A returned to a skilled nursing facility, however, she faced many challenges as many facilities were not familiar with how to care for Ms. A's new ileostomy. Needless to say, the case manager was finally able to convince her previous facility to come and actually look at Ms. A and her ileostomy to determine what kind of care she would require. Finally, it was determined that she could return to their facility and her discharge was planned for a month later.
Kathy took it upon herself to purchase Ms. A an outfit to go home in. After all, it's much colder outside now than it was when she was admitted. This included pants, socks, a shirt and a jacket, plus underwear. Ms. A joked with our nursing staff that she forgot the bra! Kathy spent the weekend shopping for Ms. A and sent photos to the other ANM asking her if she thought that Ms. A would like the outfit.
Ms. A was quite pleased with her outfit and excited to go home after a month-long stay with us on BGSU. We thought she looked pretty great too!
