I'm sitting in a patient's room and the patient is Spanish speaking only. He was all over the place acting confused and delusional (or so I thought) and kept on yelling "Kathy, Kathy". Finally, when the family came, they were able to translate and stated their dad wanted to be transferred back to the other floor and he wasn't happy on this floor for some reason and wanted the other floor nurse, Kathy.

And then I realized what all the "Kathy" yelling was about. Luckily, Kathy was actually working that night. So I called and asked if she could please come down and talk to my patient for 5 minutes. As soon as she came the patient recognized her and suddenly everything changed. He started speaking English, yes, English! And telling her about his days on this floor.

Well after ten minutes, Kathy left to go take care of her patients. And my patient was a totally different patient. He calmed down and finally went to sleep. Talk about a 5 star nurse! I was silently overwhelmed with joy (almost teared up) such compassion and care.

What a great asset to not only her floor but Baptist Health system in general. We are lucky to have Kathy as a team member. It was such a beautiful thing to witness.
