Professor Kathy Guilkey is smart, kind, and a wonderful teacher.
Professor Guilkey is well-loved by our nursing class. When she teaches, she always provides real life examples of patient care situations to illustrate her points. She often relates teaching points to experiences within her own family. Her dedication and love of teaching is evident, and that makes students love learning from her. Her enthusiasm and passion for the nursing profession make her teaching even more effective. She is quick to smile and offer encouragement. She is patient and compassionate, and I love her sense of humor.
Professor Guilkey has high expectations of students yet is still always kind and approachable. She is flexible and reasonable while never compromising the academic standards of this school. Whenever I have a question, I love to email Professor Guilkey because she always responds to questions promptly and treats all questions as if they are important. If she doesn't know the answer to a question, she is humble and the first to admit she does not know the answer.
Once I talked to Professor Guilkey about her experiences treating cancer patients, as it was obvious she was passionate about this patient population. Later that day she reached out to the director of the Cancer Treatment Center at Westwood to ask if he would let me shadow. She didn't hesitate to go above and beyond to help me, and I know she has gone out of her way to help other students as well.
I stand in a long line of students who love and admire Professor Guilkey. If I were a patient, I would want someone just like her treating me. I have asked her for advice during nursing school, and I would feel comfortable asking her for advice in the future.
