Katie was extremely attentive to my needs. Her bedside manner would be that she would crouch down to my level to speak to me or offer a hug.
I was cared for by Katie during my week-long stay in the hospital during an already difficult and emotional time having had a hysterectomy young at 31 with no children. My surgery, in another hospital, caused complications of my colon and I was unwell. Katie was extremely attentive to my needs. Her bedside manner would be that she would crouch down to my level to speak to me or offer a hug. She gave me gentle, much-needed encouragement for me to get a test done which, at that point, I had no energy or emotional strength to go through, but she supported me enough to allow me to get this vital test of a camera in my colon. She became my advocate for my complex case and her voice seemed to be heard by others so that the correct teams would help me. She chatted to me every day she was at work and was the one consistent person when all the doctors I saw were different every day. Katie also chatted to me like a friend I'd always known. She is an exceptional nurse with amazing leadership qualities. She is clearly passionate about her job. I strongly believe my care was enhanced by her and my suffering and emotional pain was eased by her at an already hugely emotional point in my life saying goodbye to the uterus that could not give me children.
