At every shift change, Katie would take a few extra moments to thoroughly cover my history and condition with the next nurse, ensuring a smooth transition and consistent care. She noticed redness on my tailbone and found and tried out several solutions to provide me with some relief. She brought small cups of essential oils to deliver a bit of aromatherapy which did help me feel better.
Katie had a nurse trainee accompany me to a thoracentesis, to hold my hand and provide emotional support during the procedure. At the same time, this provided the student with a learning opportunity.
Katie took care of me when I was at my worst, most miserable, most unappealing self. Katie's response was unfailing kindness, caring, and compassion. At the end of her 12-hour shift, she took extra time to compose a handwritten note where she expressed her "absolute delight" taking care of me the past 2 days and leaving me with an inspirational message. In summary, I am so grateful that she saw and cared about me as a person, resulting in the delivery of extraordinary care.
