With this infusion being for the rest of her life, Mrs. Katie has helped make what could have been a terrifying life experience into some of the best days of her life so far, and for that, we are forever grateful to her.
Our daughter has biweekly infusions that she has to have for the rest of her life for her genetic disorder. These infusions are meant to try and slow down the damage that could happen to her heart, kidneys, and brain. What one would think would be a scary thing for a child to have to go to every other week, knowing that you will have to get poked and be hooked up to a machine to get your medication, has become her favorite thing to go and do. She is constantly asking us if it is her infusion week, or if we can go see Mrs. Katie yet. Every ride to her infusion, she asks us if we think that she will have Mrs. Katie as her nurse. We always tell her we will have to wait and see because we don't want to get her hopes up. As much as she would rather not be poked when we go, she always walks in so bravely, and just seeing Mrs. Katie puts the biggest smile on her face. There are so many things that Mrs. Katie does that make her a wonderful nurse. From going out of her way to make her Mac and Cheese for breakfast, because she knows that is her favorite. To holding her hand and making her laugh while the vascular access team starts her IV to distract her from the pain. Mrs. Katie doesn't only just care about our daughter. She cares about our whole family and has become like family to us. With this infusion being for the rest of her life, Mrs. Katie has helped make what could have been a terrifying life experience into some of the best days of her life so far, and for that, we are forever grateful to her.
