Katie is in the float pool and she worked on our floor today. She had an ENT patient that, through her own knowledge of talking with the family, was supposed to be transferred back to Ranken Jordan Pediatric Bridge Hospital on this particular day. Katie notified the doctor first thing in the morning and told him what needed to be done to transfer and he stated he would take care of it. The day continued to go on and nothing was being done. Katie contacted Ranken several times and spoke with the nurses there and was preparing them for this patient's arrival anticipating it would still happen. She had the chart copied without even having transfer orders yet and got the transfer consent signed. Katie was being extremely proactive for this patient. She finally spoke with ENT several more times and gave them Ranken's number and who he needed to speak with to give them report and then proceeded with the transfer process. Katie set up transport with our transport team and transport showed up within 30 minutes to take the child to Ranken.

If Katie hadn't been so proactive and an excellent patient advocate for this patient she would not have been transferred back to Ranken which is what she wanted. Katie did what is right for kids in this situation.

Katie was very proactive for this family and the patient and stayed on top of making sure the patient was transferred back to Ranken because she knew that is what needed to happen. She was on top of it all day and was seconds away from calling the attending just to be an excellent patient advocate which is what we should always be doing. Katie was an excellent resource for the 10th floor today and I'm so glad she came to work with us.
